Mission Statement

  • As the museum of the district, we are an extracurricular place of education. It is important to us to maintain the museum as a space of communication and memory culture.
  • Our exhibition is characterized in particular by the agricultural collection, the herb garden and the castle itself with its historical past (Andreas von Meyendorff).
  • As a venue with supra-regional appeal (visitor radius over 200 km) we would like to offer our visitors a special experience. Therefore, we plan our events adapted to our facility and our collection holdings.
  • In general, our collections are in the foreground of our work. Their preservation and, in connection with this, the publication, presentation and communication of knowledge about the exhibits and their use is a philosophy for us. Therefore, public-oriented and sustainable museum work is important to us. To this end, we offer our visitors, for example, the opportunity to learn about old handicraft techniques. We work according to the recognized standards of the ICOM (International Council of Museums) and the standards for museums of the DMB (Deutscher Museumsbund).
  • Through good networking with schools in the region, we are able to apply our educational mission to even the youngest visitors and contribute to the formation of a regional identity. We also cultivate the Eastphalian dialect of the region and contribute to its preservation.
  • As a public cultural institution, our focus is always on making the history of the region vivid and tangible for all visitors.
  • Our goal is to contribute to the foundation of a regional identity.
  • We want to give visitors a picture of the Magdeburger Börde and its history. Starting with the geological basics up to the use of the "natural raw materials" as well as the "cultural and technical history" of the region.
  • In addition, we want to integrate ourselves into society through cooperation with other institutions and contribute to a positive external image of the museum and the region. This goal is supported by a prompt and careful processing of requests.
  • Our work follows national and international standards for museum work. These include:
    • a comprehensible, contemporary and scientifically based concept for collection and exhibition
    • the guarantee of professional care, public access and the careful treatment of objects with regard to their housing and exhibition
    • the recording and verification of proof of ownership of existing and offered objects
  • We also fulfill our public mission through regular opening hours and implement social pricing. We work economically, but not profit-oriented.
